In October 1988, while the UK braced itself for the Great Storm and the Bee Gees topped the charts, experienced packaging machine salesman John Farrow and his business partner were busy registering the company Advanced Design Packaging, now known as Adpak. The choice behind the name was strategic, as businesses relied on alphabetical directories, where being at the top of the list meant being seen first.
They aimed to provide businesses with high-quality, cost-effective packaging solutions backed by expert service and support. From the outset, John’s industry knowledge, strong network of suppliers, and ability to connect with customers set Adpak on a path to success. Trade shows played a huge role in establishing the company. To this day, Adpak continues to showcase its latest packaging innovations at events like the PPMA Show, ensuring customers always have access to the best solutions.

Adpak’s roots run deep in Burnley and Nelson, a region known for its industrial heritage and scenic Pennine landscapes. Starting in Friendship Mill, Simonstone, the company expanded multiple times before establishing its purpose-built headquarters on Lomeshaye Industrial Estate in 1999. As one of the first businesses on the estate, Adpak has played a role in its growth, contributing to the local economy and providing long-term employment opportunities.
